About Me

I’m Julia and I’m a 20 year college student who was born and raised in Beverly, Massachusetts, a small suburb just outside of Boston. I have a family of five, and I am the oldest of three siblings. Growing up, I attended Beverly Public Schools from 1st-12th grade. Outside of school, I was a competitive gymnast and enjoyed reading and writing stories. I graduated from Beverly High School in June of 2016, and enrolled in the University of Massachusetts Amherst for my undergraduate degree.

I’m now a junior at UMass Amherst, where I study English with concentrations in The Study and Practice of Writing, and Professional Writing and Technical Communication. I also work in the university’s Writing Center as a peer tutor. When I graduate in May of 2020, I hope to work in a writing-based profession. Right now I’m considering careers in technical writing, grant writing, content strategy and development, and copywriting.

Ideally, I would like to combine my technical skills with projects of passion. My areas of interest include education, feminism, reproductive politics, LGBTQIA+ activism, mental health awareness, and nonprofit work. I am also passionate about health and wellness and in my free time I enjoy practicing yoga.

Ultimately, I want to use my skills as a writer to communicate, advocate, and educate in a world where things are often complicated. My hope is to foster a sense of community between larger platforms and the general public, particularly in the context of emerging technologies, because I think writing is best used when it promotes understanding between people.
